Simplify Your Meal Plan

Meal planning is the best way to ensure you stay on track with your eating during the week. We all know that things come up during the week or after work energy is low and reach for convenience foods. If we have our meals prepared ahead of time, this takes that problem away.

When I ask people if they meal prep at all, most of them give me the answer of “I don’t know what to cook or I don’t have the time”. Let me tell you if you watched every episode of game of thrones, breaking bad, and ozarks you have plenty of time. In reality its a extra work and some people aren’t sure where to begin. My advice is to keep it as simple as possible, cut up some veggies and fruit you like, put chicken in a slow cooker, put them in containers for easy access. Here are my 4 tips for simplifying meal prep.

  • Get containers– The first step is making sure you have something to put your food in that is microwave safe amd dishwasher safe for ease.

  • Make bulk protein– Slow cooker works great for this. You can also use an oven dish or even grill. Grab 4-5 pieces of chicken, steak, or any kind of protein you like (fish doesn’t reheat very well). Add seasoning, salt, pepper, italian seasoning. Add soy sauce, bbq sauce, or any sauce you like. Protein is done. My favorite is slow cooker chicken with soy sauce, salt, and pepper.
  • Cut and roast potatoes– If you like potatoes or sweet potatoes chop some up into squares add olive oil, salt, and pepper. Add them to the oven 375 for 35-40 min. If you dont like potatoes, add fruit like strawberries, blueberries, or oranges.
  • Mix things up-No matter how much you like a recipe, its going to get old and that may get you out of a routine. I recommend having 3 different go to recipes so you can constantly change them up.

3 go to recipes

Here are my 3 go to recipes I generally make.

  • The chicken and sweet potato mixture I mentioned above. Simple yet effective and delicious.
  • Egg Roll in a Bowl –My friend Tiff turned me on to this one and I made this for about 6 months straight one time. Dont go crazy with the ingredients.
  • Meatballs with rice  –I would suggest buying pre made meatballs for this from the store. That would simplify this recipe.
